Toilet Training

We were really struggling with toilet training. It was more the fact that we didn’t think he was ready. How can he toilet train if he can’t tell us when he needs to go?

One day after work, I headed to my parents to collect my son. He was just under 4.5 years old. My dad walked me over to the potty I got for their house. He kindly kept his first potty pee to show me. Thanks dad! They had just sat him down and he done a pee. Breakthrough!

We couldn’t get him to poo in his potty. A friend said to try going straight to a toilet, but that didn’t work either. Another friend said not to use pull ups and go straight to pants. He won’t like the feeling of poo in his pants. But he just done the poo in his pants!

The advice that worked for us came from the paediatrician. Have him help clean up afterwards. Ok, let’s try it!

The next time he done a poo in his pants, I took him into the toilet. We took off his pants and he helped me tip it into the toilet then rinse his pants in the sink. We only had to do this twice, then he started to poo in the toilet!
